B(log) no.5 – May 2013
Captaincy starts now!
Hello May sunshine. Goodbye April Showers. The golfing calendar is well underway now with President's Putter and Miles Trophy Qualifiers taking place and neither threatened by the weather. Michael and I have played our first Capt/Pro challenge match we we unfortunately lost (well done Phil and Scott) , but we're hopeful of more success as the season progresses. We won our first two club matches, 4-3 v Bedfordshire and 4½-3½ in the home leg of our Royston double. Thanks to all the players from both sides for excellent matches. I'm looking forward to more matches as the summer rolls on. The club open day was a great success and I'm very pleased to be busy interviewing new members most weeks.
I'm sure you've all see many of our new members around the club. Please make every effort to welcome them into your playing groups and give them the opportunity to buy you a drink! We've had one new member leave after receiving a less than friendly welcome on the course and we want to keep that as an isolated incident. I've also received a couple of complaints about slow play recently. If you lose touch with the group in front, please let the group behind play through. This is common golf courtesy which I'm sure is practised by the majority, but it only takes one group to slow the speed of play for the whole course.
